Achim Bonte is general director of the Sächsischen Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB).

For the SLUB (Saxony's state, national and university library in Dresden) he managed the establishment of the Dresden Center for Digitization and the foundation of the SLUB Makerspace for non-textual knowledge formation. Even in the internet age and the associated almost unlimited digital access to information, Achim regards libraries as important stakeholders in our society. For this reason, he is board member of the Sächsische Bibliotheksgesellschaft (Library Society of Saxony), which supports the Saxonian libraries in their transformation towards a place for innovative knowledge exchange and meeting point for people of all generations. Additionally, the association organizes projects that go hand in hand with the objectives of the libraries, like knowledge transfer, educational justice, digital competence, digitization of the culutral heritage, strengthening democracy and social cohesion.

Achim is founder of Kitodo e.V., a network of developers and users of open-source digitization software for libraries, archives, museums and documentation centers. From 2008 to 2017 he was head of the editorial office of "BIS: Das Magazin der Bibliotheken in Sachsen" ("The Magazine of the Libraries in Saxony"). Since 2012 he is corresponding author of B.I.T.online and since 2016 co-editor of the magazine "Bibliothek: Forschung und Praxix" ("Library: Research and Practise").

Achim studied History and German Philology in Mannheim, Freiburg and Basel.
