Thomas Galli is a lawyer, author, and a former prison director.
Thomas has a courageous demand: to discuss and reform the current prison system. To him, prisons are not a humane solution. In his book “Die Gefährlichkeit des Täters,” Thomas describes the individual destiny of criminals and shows the limits of imprisonment. He thus further contributes to the discourse in media which his first book “Die Schwere der Schuld” had created.
Thomas draws from his fifteen years of experience as a prison director. After seven years as Division Manager at the prison in Straubing, he led the prison in Zeithain, in the district of Meißen from 2013 to 2016, and from time to time the prison in Torgau. He was the representative for Saxony at the National Confederation of Prison Directors.
Thomas studied law at the University of Regensburg, as well as criminology and psychology. He was an apprentice for criminal law and psychology and a member of the Dresden Criminal Prevention Council. Thomas is a co-commentator working on the criminal code and has also published articles about the penitentiary system.
Since 2016, he has been working as a criminal lawyer in Augsburg. In addition, he is a board member of netzwerkB, which works for victims of sexual violence.
